Illinois CLE Requirements

Attorney Requirements

Illinois attorneys are required to complete 30 hours of CLE every 2 years. At least 6 hours must be in the area of Professional Responsibility, including at least 1 hour in the area of Diversity and Inclusion and 1 hour in the area of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Attorneys must earn the required MCLE credits by June 30th and report by July 31st for their reporting period.

Attorneys may carry over up to 10 hours of CLE credit to the following reporting period.

Newly Admitted Attorneys

Newly admitted members are required to complete a six-hour Basic Skills course that has been approved by the MCLE Board, as well as nine additional hours of approved CLE credits of their choosing.

Online Courses

Illinois attorneys may view all 30 hours of CLE through online courses.
